Love in Casablanca

Along with planning fabulous weddings & events we also love putting together fabulous styled shoots. We came up with an idea of doing a Moroccan themed photo shoot incorporating lots of reds & golds with some vibrant pops of color.  There are so many great vendors in the Sacramento area and we had the awesome pleasure of working with some of the best of the best for this Casablanca inspired shoot.

Wedding Dresses {Fall 2014 Trends}

There are so many options nowadays for wedding dresses, where do you even begin?! There is short and sweet, long and flowy, fitted, mermaid, trumpet, A-Line, strapless, long sleeve…the list goes on and on! If you need some inspiration take a look at the Fall 2014 wedding dress trends from some of the top designers! One of the biggest trends {and maybe a little shocking} is the pink wedding dress. Long ago are the days of the traditional white wedding dress. We started moving towards more of an ivory color and now are going full PINK! Another trend is long sleeve, which I think creates a very sophisticated and elegant look. Short dresses are also going to be very popular. Shorter dresses create more of a casual fun aspect to the wedding dress. One trend that is kind of dwindling is satin, and taking over is lace. Lots and lots of lace overlays this upcoming season. One trend that is still big is strapless, which you can find a lot of places and in a lot of different silhouettes. With all the options out there remember to go with your gut: what do you feel comfortable in and what looks best for your body type. This is YOUR day and YOUR wedding dress, get what’s right for YOU! 🙂

Money Saving {Honeymoon Saving Tips}

Hey all my budget bandits, coupon queens, and super savers! I’m back with our budget tip of the month! Tip#3 is all about the honeymoon! As your wedding approaches, you may be asking yourselves, can we afford a honeymoon? DO NOT PUT IT OFF DUE TO COST. I have a trick to help cover some of the costs. Get a credit card that will get you frequent flyer miles. I went with the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Card. You can get as many as 50,000 bonus points just for signing up. Now this is not the only airline that offers rewards, there are many to choose from (Delta, Southwest, Frontier, Etc…) Once you apply and receive your card use it for every expense your wedding will bring from the venue to the shoes you will wear on the day. All of the points you rack up will allow you to save a lot of money on flights for your honeymoon. Maybe even get free flights for both of you depending on how much you spend on the card. Make sure you use the credit card but pay it off as soon as possible because you do not want the interest to counteract the savings it will generate.

** Yes, a honeymoon can be expensive and it requires planning in the midst of the actual wedding day planning. It is no wonder why some couples decide to postpone or not have a honeymoon all together. I could not disagree with this decision more. There are many reasons you should go an a honeymoon and here are a few:

To Relax: Like I said before the wedding day will be a whirlwind. You will spend more time with the guests then your new husband or wife. The honeymoon will give you a chance to relax together with no family or friends around to distract your attention.

To Celebrate: You’re married! Get excited and celebrate! Allow your new married selves some time to kick back and celebrate your new status as an official MARRIED couple.

To Explore:  As a new married couple it is important to grow and experience new things together. A honeymoon propels a couple out into the world together, to experience new places, fun foods, and many more new things together.

Talk about the Future: A honeymoon gives a couple quiet time to imagine their future and ask questions. What do you think our family will be in 5 years? Where do you want to be in 10 years? 20? Those long walks on the beach will be filled with more then kissing and holding hands. The future is exciting and it will be fun to start planning.

Destination Wedding {Winter Wedding in New York}

Why New York you say? When I see this location all I can say is “winter wedding”. This alpine village is anything but remote, with loads of activities and attractions. Leave the glitz at home and choose a venue among all the cozy rustic-chic resorts and lakeside lodges. Along with enjoying the stunning views of snow capped mountains, you can even incorporate a gondola ride up Whiteface Mountain into your wedding. How amazing does that sound? For the more adventurous type you can get an even better view of the country’s most stunning foliage from a hot air balloon!
When to wed: Naturally, a winter resort area will be busy and more expensive during the winter months, but if you want a snowy wedding, try April when it’s less crowded but there’s still lots of lingering snow. In fall, the changing foliage usually peaks in the third week of October, so book your wedding date near then, and spring is beautiful, but have a backup plan for rain.

DIY {Dessert Bar}

It is so fun and easy to serve your guests dessert with a DIY dessert bar.  You can either ask a couple close friends or family to bake some cookies, brownies or mini pies, or easily pick some up from Safeway or Costco.  You can order custom napkins or dessert bags to add a sweet personal touch and display your desserts beautifully!

Vendors We Love {Botanica Floral & Event Design}

One of the biggest elements to a wedding {and something that can make a BIG impact} are the flowers! The flowers play a very important role and are featured all throughout the wedding: the ceremony arrangements, pedals down the aisle, bridal party bouquets, toss bouquet, centerpieces, and floral arrangements all throughout the reception. Because the flowers play such a big role it is important to get an awesome florist. One of the florists that we L-O-V-E is Botanica Floral & Event Design. They are not only a great vendor to work with, but they are so extremely talented and creative. They bring the “wow” factor to any wedding they do.

Hot Honeymoons {Turtle Bay Resort, Hawaii}

To continue with our “Hawaii” theme of the month I picked Turtle Bay Resort in Oahu for your Honeymoon pick of the month. Turtle Bay is the only resort on the North Shore of the Island and it is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the busy main island. The resort offers many different honeymoon packages. Most include horseback riding on the beach, private dinners, and some even include a photographer to capture this wonderful time! Looking at the pictures makes me want to have a second honeymoon here!

I’m Throwing a Fundraiser, Now What?! {Budgeting}

Fundraisers require many different steps and guidelines to get it done correctly so you can raise the most money possible. Every fundraising event needs a budget plan, a complete list of all the expenses that will be required to hold the event. The budget will need to include venue, catering, entertainment, security, decorations, and anything else that will be required to make the event successful.  Now it is very important that the budget takes into account your fundraising goal this way you raise that amount above and beyond all your expenses. Like any other event you plan there are always unforeseen costs, so make sure you allow a little wiggle room in the budget for those extras that pop up.

**Obviously you will want to try to get as many services donated as you can, but on the initial budget plan add them in. That way if you end up getting it donated it is extra money for your charity.

I’m throwing a FUNDRAISER!.. Now what?

I’m throwing a FUNDRAISER!.. Now what?

Putting on fundraiser is a lot harder then it looks and there are many different types of fundraisers: schools, companies, non-profits, and foundations. Although planning an event or birthday party are unique and take time and effort, fundraisers take on a little bit different of a role. Fundraisers require many different steps and guidelines to get it done correctly so you can raise the most money possible. An important aspect that sometimes may get overlooked is having a theme. Whether it be The Great Gatsby or even a crab feed the theme is key to how the event will go off. Look at the type of crowd you will be inviting and pick a theme that you think would peak their interest. You need to create an environment that people will feel comfortable as well as exciting. Excitement creates a memorable experience, as well as gets the crowd involved with event (i.e. donate more money).  And let’s face it, who doesn’t like to dress up and pretend to be someone else for the night?! So remember, don’t let the theme be too crazy, but make it crazy enough for the guests to remember and have a care free time!
