Destination Wedding Tips

Over the next few months I am going to be featuring some resorts that were said to be the Top Destination Wedding Resorts of 2014. Here is the resort that made number one on the list:
Live Aqua is an all adult, all inclusive resort in Cancun. The hotel offers weddings for all religions and preferences adapting to the needs of everyone. They have different ceremony locations on the beach and they offer both outside and indoor reception options. My favorite option is to get married around/in their infinity pool. They also have a beautiful hidden garden area perfect for a private reception. Live Aqua is a great place to make your event one of a kind and unforgettable!

DIY Wedding Trends {Signage}

Personalization.  That is the hottest thing you can add to your wedding and there are a million and one ways to do it yourself on a dime.  After all it is your, and only your, wedding so adding personal details makes it all the better.  Banners and signage have been spicing up weddings for a while now and they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.  It is such an easy and inexpensive way to add so much personality.

Vendor’s We Love {SJ’s Disc Jockey}

After the “I Do’s” and the pictures it’s time to let loose and put on your dancin’ shoes! Let’s face it, a lot of the guests are most excited for the dancing at the wedding (especially if there’s a bar)…so you HAVE to have an awesome DJ. Joe from SJ’s Disc Jockey is hands down one of the best of the best DJ’s. He definitely gets the party started! DJ’s can set the whole mood for you wedding…they make announcements, they schedule the timing of the music for all the important elements (entrance, bouquet toss, first dance, etc.) and they make sure to keep the crowd in good spirits! Joe has a way of examining the dance floor and figuring out what songs to play to please the crowd and keep them dancing! Side note: Joe also offers lighting services and a photo booth! Make sure to check him out!

2014 Oscar Dresses

I will be the first to admit that when it comes to any awards show, my favorite part is the red carpet. The beautiful, bold, unique, classic, daring, elegant dresses that grace the red carpet are always what I look forward to the most. There is always a particular style that stands out to me. I don’t know if it’s because I’m in wedding planning mode (and wedding planning is my job) but there were several gowns that reminded me of wedding dresses. Some trends that stood out to me were long sleeves, lace, sheer, strapless, and plunging necklines. So many whites, silvers, ivories, and golds on the red carpet…looked like a lot of brides 😉

The Wedding Planner Weds! {Let’s get started}

So I know I haven’t written in a while, and honestly it’s because up until last week there was no update. Mark and I took time to just enjoy our engagement. We didn’t rush into wedding planning mode, we enjoyed being with each other and celebrating with our family and close friends. But now, it’s go time. As I said before, Mark is a firefighter so getting married during “fire season” was out of the questions. That means June-November would not be an option for a wedding. So that meant we either get married this Spring or wait until next Winter. We both aren’t really patient people, so we decided to get married this May! First things first, we made our guest list and figured out our budget, this way we know what we are working with and what type of venue we need to find. After researching, researching, contacting, and contacting we finally chose a venue: The Old Sugar Mill. If you have not seen it yet, check it out, it is AMAZING! Since we are getting married in about two months, the next step was to order invites and of course find a dress (which I got from Enchanted Bridal)! Then I started contacting some of my favorite vendors. Photographer: Carmen Salazar, DJ: SJ’s Disc Jockey, Florist: Botanica Floral & Event Design, Hair & Make up: Jen Haupt I Make Beautiful.  I am beyond excited to have such an amazing team to be a part of our special day. Not only are these vendors perfectly awesome at what they do, but they are such great people. What a whirlwind this last week has been.

This is what is on my checklist for this week: firm up caterer, order linens and rental items, research hotels for out of town guests, and register (woo!!!). Stay tuned for another update coming soon!

Wedding Traditions

Wedding traditions, there are quite a few of them…but have you ever wondered WHY we do them? We thought it would be fun to do some digging and figure out why we do the things we do on that special day. And if you’re like us, you will be quite surprised to find out the reasoning behind those “cute” traditions…

1) Flowers: Why does the bride and the bridemaies hold a bouget of flowers while walking down the aisle?

Answer: It used to be herbs and flowers. Because of the plaque people would hold herbs over there nose in an effort to survive…..others believe this came from the bride trying to smell pretty on her day…we like to focus on the ladder.

2) Bridesmaid dresses: Why do bridesmaids wear matching dresses?

Answer: The bride and bridesmaids all wore similar dresses. This was to confuse evil spirits so they would not know who the bride was. Talk about true friends!

3) Wedding cake: Why do couples cut the wedding cake together?

Answer: The groom would eat part of  bread and break the rest over his bride’s head. History tells us that breaking the bread symbolized the breaking of the bride’s virginal state and the subsequent dominance of the groom over her.

4) Throwing rice: Why do we throw rice at the couple as they walk away?

Answer: This was to symbolize prosperity and showering the couple with it.

5) Giving the Bride Away: Why does the father of the bride walk her down the aisle and “give her away”?

Answer: A long time ago, a daughter was considered the fathers property. Quite often a father would literally give the bride away in exchange for something such as a cow. We’re glad to see that tradition has evolved.

Well, there is our Wedding History Lesson. We hope you have found it as interesting as we did! Although traditions are fun and memorable, I’m happy to see the reasonings have changed a bit 🙂

Sacramento Destination Wedding Planner. Cancun venue pick!

Why not combine my two favorite things? Travel and wedding planning….. together they equal an unforgettable experince. In December Sarah and I jetted off to Mexico for a Destination Wedding Planning Seminar and a few margaritas!

While in Cancun we had the pleasure of going to the beautiful Mayan Palace. The hotel was absolutely stunning and the food was delicious. They have several different options for ceremony and reception locations.

I personally loved the Mayan Palace because of the bright colors and cuban feel.  The dock is lit up and night and lined with chandeliers. It does’t get much better than that!

If you are thinking of planning a destination wedding in Cancun, check this place out. And give us a call we would love to go back!

Happy Birthday David!

The Garabaldi family is not only an awesome client of ours, but they are very near and dear to our hearts. We first met Joy last year when she contacted us to throw her son’s third birthday party…and that’s when we realized this was an amazing family. This past December Joy contacted us again to help throw a surprise birthday party for her husband David at Mikunis, with the theme being…wait for it…Star Wars. What guy wouldn’t love that?! Bloomers Floral Design provided the chic, yet still manly, centerpieces. The delicious and awesomely designed cake was made by Sugar & Spice Specialty Desserts. It was all captured by the talented Chris from Encore Entertainment.
